DVD Court: Nov. 6

This week, we put a handful of films on trial. As The Jury, we recommend what should happen to a particular DVD released today. Voting Burn It, Skip It, Rent It, or Buy It, we come together to deliver a verdict and hope to help you decide what to watch or avoid. We've also now added our Court of Appeals, where we allow a mention of another particular release that we find worth "saving" (aka buying). We also still have two spots open.     The Amazing Spider-Man - (6.5/10.0) I enjoyed it but not as much as Spider-Man 1 + 2. It's sad to see that [REC] 3 is under 'Burn It'. Haven't seen it yet but I loved the first and somewhat like the second. Let's hope part 4 picks up the slack.

      Um.......this wasn't the same series as Spider-Man 1 & 2. It's apples and oranges, you CAN'T compare it, if you do, then you're not being fair.

      You can compare. They're very different yes, but its too similar not to compare. I prefer Amazing, though.

      I think it is absolutely fair game to compare the two. The Amazing Spider-Man is a reboot and I prefer the original. Apples and oranges would be like comparing Batman and Spider-Man. They aren't even from the same comic book company. Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man, SAME superhero and SAME company, is like comparing Granny Smiths and McIntosh.

      It's based off of Spider-Man yes, but there are a bunch of different versions of Spider-Man, There is the Amazing Spider-Man, there is the Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man Unlimited, there is even Zombie Spider-Man. Spider-Man has died in one comic, while he lives in another. The comic Amazing Spider-Man is based off of in this movie, is a different comic than Toby McGuire's series. It is MEANT to be viewed differently. Heck, even in straight sequels, I view those independantly as well, UNlESS, I have to compare them. Like movies that don't make any sense unless you know what happened to the previous movie(s).

    I've only seen the first REC so far but I really want to see the others as well. Even though the verdic on 3 is burn it.
    I like how The Amazing Spider-Man was overruled, haha!

    Damn you guys crazy Rec3 nowhere near the standard of the first 2 but to skip it or burn it, pfft its at least a rent, but I needed to finish the trilogy...

    In true Criterion addict fashion, when I went to buy Rashomon tonight I walked out with 3 other Criterion blus too...
    Oh well, I know what I'm doing with my weekend!

    Hoping to get to My Sister's Sister sometime in the next couple of weeks. Looked interesting. Glad to see Spidey make the cut. I didn't love it like many people did but I definitely see the virtue.
